Whew....glad that month is over! Whenever I aux. pio. and we have the C.O. it's busy as you all know. Add interviewing for a job and running around doing stuff for that. Oh yeah, and Brooke came but just for 3 days. Hmm, maybe I'm just getting older....ya think?!
Today I spent over 3 hours driving around and waiting to get pre-employment tests done. It took 45 min. waiting to get the drug test done, which took about 3 minutes. Oh well, it all got taken care of except I do have to go back 3 more times for the TB test. Have to have two for some reason. Oh yeah, I'm going to be the Client Care Coordinator for a new home health agency that is opening. It may take some time to get it going but I think I will like it.
We are just being lazy tonight watching the World Series. Then we will watch House, one of our favorites.
It was 70 degrees today. Very nice, but kind of crazy considering it snowed less than a week ago!
Everyone in the congregation seems healthy right now. No more H1N1 going around at the moment. Our Congregation Coordinator just got back from the school in NY. He is floating on air and very enthusiastic about his experience.

Fall Colors
There are some beautifully colored trees and bushes in Reno right now. I finally remembered to put my camera in my book bag the other day so I could get a few pictures. I think I was starting to annoy my service group because of my pulling over and jumping out of the car to take pictures yesterday! Soon I will get them onto the blog.
We had a great visit by our C.O. and his wife last week. Richard and Lynn Holland. They have lived in several of the same places we have it turns out. I got to go to the 1st part of the pioneer meeting where the account of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch was examined. Found out there are 15 pioneers in our ASL group, so altogether there were about 22 who attended.
We are excited that our daughter from P.S., Brooke, will be here on Sat. It's a quick trip (3 days) but I'm sure it will have a lot packed into it if she has anything to say about it. Which she will! It should be about 70 and sunny which will be good for hiking which she loves to do.
We got a used elliptical machine the other day. Don't want to put the pounds back on that we lost in Mexico! It's pretty neat but so far we only last about 5 minutes on it!
A couple people we know do have the H1N1 virus but so far it's not effecting many in the congregations that I know of. Hope it stays that way! Funny we were where it supposedly originated and it's effecting the whole world now.

Fall is almost here
My favorite season is trying to establish itself. Actually the weather can't decide if it wants to be summer or winter since it snowed in the Sierras a couple of days ago! But the trees haven't even turned color yet so I'm hoping that will happen before more snow.
Perfect weather for service. It's not getting to be more than 70 degrees by late afternoon. Good "walking in territory" weather. I'm aux. pio. this month. Usually try to in Oct. since it might be the last good weather. I have accumulated about 14 RVs this last month so I will start returning to those and also working my territory at different times of the day. There is a day set aside for phone witnessing at the Hall too, so I want to do that also. I have to make some business cards for us showing that we offer free home Bible studies. Those are so easy to hand to anyone that's nice and it will have the WT website on it. Maybe I'll get to that today.

Reno or Bust Part III
Thought I'd better get Part III taken care of before I completely forget!
We left Corpus and traveled diagonally NW across Texas the first day. It took 2 days to get out of Texas. It's a very interesting state. Seems to have everything except maybe really tall mountains.
Then it's kind of a blur but we went into New Mexico, Arizona and Utah as we continued mostly north and west. You can really see that the estimation that after Armageddon there will be 2 acres for every person is probably accurate when you drive across these vast, empty spaces! All it needs is a little water!
From Corpus to Reno took 5 eight hour driving days. Sitting that long took it's toll on Michael's lower back. After his 3rd chiropractor visit, trigger point elbow therapy by your's truly and muscle relaxants he might be slightly better now. :( Poor guy.
We are happy to be back in our old congregation here in Reno. We looked around for one a bit smaller, but there aren't any! Lots of growth here and several Kingdom Halls are needed. We have ASL with our cong. now and there is a Chinese group in our Hall and a Filipino cong. was just formed at another KH. Wow!
We were also able to attend a wedding right when we got back. Jess was a bridesmaid. There are pictures of her and our drive on flickr. Just click on the slideshow area of the blog over in the right hand column.
It's still summer weather here so we need to get our Tahoe time in before fall sets in! Think we might go there today.

Reno or Bust Part II
When we reached Corpus Christi it was so much fun to visit with a family that we had been good friends with in Washington state 35 yrs. ago! Actually, we are still good friends. I have visited with the wife, Gail, several times over the years but Mike hadn't seen Greg since they visited Palm Springs once about 25 or so years ago. Of course, none of us have changed at all! ha ha
The Lossings kindly put up with us for 10 whole days! We took over the computer/crafts room. I have to say attending the convention in Corpus was awesome. I would consider going there every year! It is a great area. Not too populated, water everywhere, wonderful highway system and a great convention center right on the water. Great little seafood restaurants and the brothers tend to go fishing a lot! Later today I will upload some pictures to Flickr of our friends and the convention center.
Also, while we were there another couple arrived at the Lossings to visit. Apparently we both contacted them on the same day about coming. The Lossings are so hospitable they took us all in at the same time. Kyla & Larry Rippley from Olympia WA, where we came in the Truth. Haven't seen them in 35 years. It was a very fun reunion.
While we were in Corpus, Greg and Gail's daughter and son-in-law got accepted for substitute circuit work! Michelle, the daughter, is my daughter Brooke's best friend. We had a nice picnic at Michelle's house to celebrate that. I got to kayak on the bay which is their backyard. Do you get the idea that we really liked Corpus?
My next post will be about the arduous drive home to Reno.....

Reno or Bust Part I
I'm going to write about our journey home in 3 parts.
First: Getting out of Mexico......
I was pleasantly surprised that we came out of Valle into Toluca and then found the correct turnoff without incident! Once before we tried to head towards Queretero and ended up in Mexico City because we missed the "special" turnoff. :(
So the first day of driving went very well. We drove a couple of hours past San Luis Potisi so it would be an equal drive both days. Found a great little hotel where our van could be out of sight and we could walk to a fried chicken place for dinner. It was really good chicken as I recall!
The next day was border crossing day. We again did great until we reached Monterey where there was some construction going on right at the entrance to the highway we needed to turn onto. Missed that and went into the city a bit but we needed to find a bathroom anyway.
We pulled into a gas station and a police truck pulled up behind us, blocking us. We were told that we had just run a red light (not) and that we needed to go to the police station to pay 800 pesos. Mike would not give the guy his license and we were trying politely to let them know we weren't going to pay for something we didn't do. The good part is that a very nice man was watching the whole thing and he knew we were being scammed. He called a policeman friend of his who arrived and told us we were free to go with no fines!
So, we took off down the road a ways to make a U turn to go back to the freeway entrance we had missed. As we are just about to get into the lane for the entrance another policeman walks across the busy road pointing at us and motioning for us to pull over! We didn't do it. We hadn't done anything wrong and we were pretty sure the first guy who pulled us over had called this guy to see if he could scam us. We just got on the freeway and put the pedal to the metal! So, that was 1.5 efforts to get some money out of us as we were leaving Mexico!
The other successful attempt was right in Nuevo Laredo. We were pulled over by a motorcycle cop who said we were going 2 km over the speed limit. What is that, 1 mph? At this point we could see the bridge and the cars waiting to cross the border. This guy also wanted us to go to the police station and pay 800 pesos. We suggested that we just pay him and he could take it to the police station (ha) but we didn't have 800 pesos, only 500. He got really happy and friendly then and took the 500 under the ticket book and let us go! Well worth it and we were across the border in about an hour.
It was too bad that in the last few hours we had these 2.5 negative experiences that marred our enjoyable time in Mexico. But, hey, there are crooked cops everywhere I guess.
We stayed in Laredo U.S. this night at the Holiday Inn. Corpus Christi here we come! I'll write about that next time.

Reverse Adventure
Thought I'd write one more time before we head out of Mexico in 4 days. My laptop crashed about a month ago so we won't be able to do email or blog as we travel this time. The laptop will be heading back to Gateway as soon as we get to Corpus Christi. It still has two months left on it's extended warranty, yippee!
This is our plan of travel:
Aug. 11th Drive to Matehuela, MX. Someone told us there is one hotel there so I hope it's still there. This should be about an 8 hr. drive. Some people start super early and drive all the way to the border in one 15 hr. drive but we're more the 8 to 10 (or less) hr. drivers!
Aug. 12th Drive across the border to Laredo, TX. This is also an 8 hr. drive. We're staying in Motel 6s all the way.
Aug. 13th Drive to Corpus where we will spend a couple of days by the beach then on the 15th we'll show up at our friend's house. Guess we'll be at Greg and Gail's about 6 days before the District convention starts. Hope they don't get tired of us!
After the convention we will leave on Aug. 26th to start the drive to NV. We are going to go through Carlsbad NM, Albuquerque NM, Page AZ, Cedar City UT, Ely NV and on to Reno. Should take 5 or 6 days.
Looking forward to some serious Lake Tahoe time when get back to Reno!
